Occupation therapists are licensed health care professionals concerned with health and well-being through occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable well-being through occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in activities of every day life including home, community and work. They achieve this outcome by modifying the environment or by adapting the activity to allow participation.

Who is a Certified Hand Therapist?
A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) is an occupational or physical therapist who, through advanced study and training, specializes in rehabilitating patients with conditions affecting the hands and upper extremity. The Certified Hand Therapist has successfully passed a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper quarter rehabilitation.

Who Do They Serve?
CHTs work with patients presenting with acute injuries involving the hand and upper extremities including fractures, tendon and nerve lacerations, wounds and traumatic amputations. They also treat repetitive motion disorders such as tennis elbow and carpal tunnel. Also, chronic conditions such as arthritis are effectively addressed by hand therapy interventions.
